  • Chess Emporium Spring 2021

Chess Emporium teaches a fun and exciting introduction to the game of chess. Club begins by teaching students how to play the game, chess openings, tactics, and endgames. Students will practice what they learn each week in games with their friends. Studies by major corporations have shown that chess can help students improve their math and verbal skills, creative abilities, and critical thinking abilities. Chess provides helpful insights into mathematics, visualization, analysis, and writing skills.

Starts 2/10/21 - Ends 5/5/2021; every Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30

Chess Emporium Covid Response Plan

The Chess Emporium is committed to preventing the spread of COVID-19 and we have put in place the following procedures in our chess clubs and our Learning Academy locations: • Face Masks or face coverings required for all coaches and participants. • Extensive material cleaning including coaches bringing clean and sanitized materials for every class. • Staff will check their own temperatures prior to class and any instructors with fevers or any symptoms related to COVID-19 are instructed to stay home and contact us immediately. • Access to cleaning supplies including sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer to keep materials clean during use. Encouraging frequent hand-washing and sanitizer use. • Social distancing whenever possible, however, during game play where distancing will be difficult we are limiting interactions between students, with coaches having participants play against only one single partner each week during the class, with limited chess board and material sharing. • We are asking that each player only touch their own pieces and when capturing a piece we are instructing students to ask their opponent to remove that piece from the board. We understand the importance of preventing the spread of COVID-19 and based on our experience offering in person activities we have found these measures have been sufficient to help keep our students and staff safe during this time.
